ANIMATION CINEMA
Animation is the mixture of plastic arts such as painting, colouring, refinement, and segmentation, and film arts such as script and dialogue writing, shooting and directing.
This activity has been going on in El Nahda Association for 4 years now and produced films with children in more than 500 hours of work in several neighbourhoods and districts such as : el Fagala, el Hagana, el Sharabya, Monshaet Naser, el Zawya el Hamra and el Fayoum. These films are: “The Wonderful Suitcase”, “Friends in Demo” and “The Idealistic City”.
The main tools used in the Workshop are a control and lighting box and a digital video camera (suitable for the “shoot by Shoot” technique).
The modus operandi of the workshop with children
The Workshop usually includes 7-10 children from 8 to 15. The work starts with the narration, and then all the members of the workshop collectively create a story and write the script and the dialogue. After that they define the characters and draw the backgrounds of the story. The drawings are now to be coloured, segmented and moved before the camera. Finally, montage and mixing are made in an equipped studio and the children input their own voices into the cartoons.
Technical methods
*CUT- OUT:
This is the most suitable technique for children for it needs simple tools and materials. It has been chosen by El Nahda Association to produce a number of films with the children.
*2D: This is a more sophisticated method which requires moving the drawings on tracing paper. Computer programs such as Flash or Photo shop are used with this technique. The association participated in the competition held in Lebanon with the technique of 2D.
*The Clay: New technique that will be applied with children from 14-16.
