THE ATELIER

Presentation
The Atelier is an artistic activity for children and youth addressed to the middle classes, the marginalized, the poor and those having learning difficulties, seeking to ensure the upgrading of their cultural level and to develop their artistic abilities. Throughout regular workshops, the children deal freely with various functional materials such as paper, clay, leather, glass, etc., whose nature they study, and are trained to master painting techniques and thus produce works of art from simple materials available in the environment. The Atelier encourages free painting so that the children can express freely their feelings, their psychological state, their own culture and their particular perceptions of reality.

Workshops The Atelier organizes different workshops to train the children in a variety of artistic fields.

+ PAINTING
This workshop includes simple painting on paper with different materials (wooden colour pencils, watery colours, etc.) and basic design rules like painting the human body and its proportions, which constitutes a big challenge to the children or trough simple perspective. This is an excellent opportunity for children to express freely about important issues such as UNEMPLOYMENT, CHILD LABOUR, POLLUTION, OVERCROWDING, NOISE, TOBACCO, etc., which otherwise have few chances to be dealt with, and finding alternatives to them.

+ PAPER CRAFTWORK
Handicraft requires such a simple thing as paper. Children make masks out of paper dough which are later coloured. Or any other object they can imagine: personal memories notes in various and simple forms, painted pyramids.

+ POTTERY
This is a fine art craft. In this workshop children are taught to deal with clay from the firsts steps: information about the raw material, location, extraction, sale, until its final manufacture when they express themselves on MATERNITY, PHARAONIC FORMS, FREE FORMATION, etc.

+ LEATHER
Leather is another important workshop of the Atelier, which results in a notable production of handicraft such as hairpins, medals and wallets.

+ COPPER WORK
The vaulting technique is used to produce a large quantity of nice copper plates depicting such varied topics as Nature, cartoons and pharaonic designs.

+ GLASS PAINTING
This includes glass plates, frames, etc. which the children, who have been trained to master glass painting, decorate with flowers, fruits or other natural motifs, for example.
